Nursery Volunteers Needed

Are you willing to spend an hour with the cutest members of our congregation? The only talent required is the ability to smile and/or read a Bible story. Please contact Juliana Smith if you are willing to be on a substitute list for summer.

Parents of young children should  also know that as an extra precaution, we have begun locking the door at the far end of the church (near the preschool area) at 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Please arrive prior to that time or use another entrance.

Parents, check out the logos ministry parenting helps website:

http://www.thelogosministry.org/heartfelt.html. This Christian online parenting magazine features advice this month on parental worries—what parental fears are, what they should be, and how to address them. It also suggests books to help you and your children deal with worries. You can find sample pages from this useful website on the bulletin board in the children’s classroom area.

Parents of elementary age children: please remember to encourage your children to read their Pockets devotional. These are great tools for encouraging kids to spend time with God during the week.

Sunday Mornings:
Grace UMC welcomes children as part of worship. Every Sunday we have a “Time for Teaching” during the 11:00 service. We also provide children’s bulletins and bags with religious activities for them to do during worship. In addition, we often have children take an active role in worship, through presentations, singing, serving as acolytes, or other activities.

Educational Opportunities: Sunday Mornings at 10 am

Sunday mornings are filled with singing and learning at Grace.
We’ve moved children’s choir to Sunday morning to make it easier for parents.

Ages 4-5    10:05-10:20    1st grade thru 5th grade    9:30-10:00

Please call Regina South if you have any questions at
804-694-7756 or email at reginalsouth@gmail.com.

Christian Education follows children’s choir starting Sept.

Sunday Morning Christian Learning:

Several classes will be using a curriculum called Living the Good News, which is a lectionary-based study that this fall will be highlighting Jesus’ stories.

Children in the nursery will receive Living the Good News handouts.

Early elementary  (K– 2) and Tweens (grades 5-7) will use Living the Good News lessons that are experiential, creative, and designed to meet needs of different learning styles. (Note: the Forum Adult class will be using an adult version of the same curriculum; all these groups will have the same lesson in age-appropriate format.)

Middle elementary (grades 3 & 4) will continue exploring their way through the books of the Bible in sequential order.

High School will use FaithLink curriculum that explores recent events in our society and how we relate to them as Christians.

We offer nursery care for children 5 and under during worship and Sunday School.  We have two terrific caregivers, Chris and Maya, on staff.

We are committed to Safe Sanctuaries practices to protect our children. Paid caregivers have background checks and volunteers commit to upholding our Child Protection Policy.

Other Activities: We encourage children’s full participation in the body of Christ and therefore include them in activities such as CROP Walk. We also periodically have special events for children, including holiday activities, fun outings, and children’s mission projects.
